ENVIRONMENT

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF OUR OPERATIONS

We want to be one step at a time contributing to the fact that future generations also have the opportunity to live a quality life on our planet. In the future, we will try to analyze the production quantities even more precisely, so that we know how to manufacture exactly the products for which there is definitely a demand. VIMMA doesn't have seasonal thinking, but VIMMA's collection has products that are constantly being developed to be better based on customer feedback. Our goal is for our selection to include products that travel seamlessly from the factory to the consumer. We don't want to produce any surplus. In order to make a beautiful everyday life available to everyone, we strive to manufacture products for real demand at prices where consumers can buy them without discounts.

VIMMA's goal for 2022 is to create its own responsibility document (Code of Conduct), according to which operators commit to minimum requirements regarding, for example, human and animal rights. We will go through these conditions with all our suppliers and in the future we will always present them before starting a new collaboration.

CARBON FOOTPRINT

At the end of 2021, we started cooperation with EVERGREEN. The purpose of this cooperation is to map our carbon footprint, to further investigate the environmental effects of our own operations and to make a plan to reduce our carbon footprint.

VIMMA does not own its own factories, so their carbon footprint is minimal. Our own carbon footprint is related to purchased energy and the heating method of our business premises.
The electricity in our business comes from Helen Oy in Helsinki, and according to the electricity contract, we use electricity produced from 100% renewable energy sources. VIMMA Liiketila's electricity is therefore produced entirely by wind power. In addition, our electricity consumption has halved after VIMMA moved to new premises in the fall of 2021 compared to the electricity consumption of the former 300 m2 warehouse.

Our goal is to make accurate carbon footprint calculations and find effective ways to compensate for the emissions caused by the above-mentioned factors during the year 2022. These are implemented in cooperation with Evergreen. We also aim to be carbon neutral by 2025. We want to find efficient and effective ways to monitor the emissions caused by our operations, learn to detect shortcomings in our operations and understand more broadly our environmental responsibility throughout our operations.

RECYCLING

Our goal is that every VIMMA garment finds a happy wearer. We also donate products to people who are in need of help. We recommend our customers to recycle used clothes and we cooperate with Emmy, an online store that sells used branded clothes, bags and accessories. Our customers can send old or small VIMMA clothes to Emmy free of postage, and as a reward we will give them a bonus that can be used when shopping in VIMMA's online store.

In local second-hand stores and Facebook recycling groups, VIMMA clothes move quickly, and their resale value remains good, because the products are of high quality and the manufacturing batches are small. Our collections always include clothes of one size, which makes it easier to sell and recycle used products from one consumer to another.

PRODUCT BORROWING SERVICE

VIMMA does not have its own clothing lending service, but new clothing lending companies have sprung up all over Finland that act as VIMMA's retail customers and thus serve our customers who want to borrow VIMMA clothing instead of buying it.

CHEMICALS

We manufacture VIMMA products locally in Finland and the Baltic countries, so the use of harmful chemicals is excluded by law. We research the origins of fabric production and the manufacturing processes of each type of fabric even better, so that we can ensure the safety of all the materials we use for the environment and people.

LOGISTICS

As a logistics partner in Finland, we use Posti's environmentally friendly services. In Tallinn, our products are transported by local transport operators who have excellent local knowledge and with whom we have been cooperating for a long time. Our products do not travel by air, but transport from, for example, Tallinn to Finland is arranged by sea and road. We try to minimize the need for logistics by, among other things, that our product descriptions in the online store are accurate, so that customers get what they ordered. This is how we try to avoid transporting the same product back and forth.

PACKAGING MATERIALS

From the very beginning, there has been a policy in all of Vimma's logistics that plastic is not used at all at any point in the production chain. We do not want to burden the environment by making bags for individual packaging that would be used in products or storage that leave the factory for us or for our customers. The local production of the products has made this policy possible, as it does not require long transport journeys due to the risk of mold. Only the fabric packs are protected with plastic for truck transport to prevent the loss of soiled fabrics. When we send products from the warehouse to our customers, we pack those products in paper bags. From the production, the products come to us in cardboard boxes, inside which the products are tied together with wefts made of surplus fabric, and there are only intermediate cartons between the different products.

Emissions from the procurement of goods and services are constantly being investigated and we are taking corrective action on issues that we can influence ourselves. Our goal in 2022 is to move to e-commerce shipping bags made entirely of recycled paper.

WASTE

We utilize the cutting waste generated in production by making it into various accessories. We are notified of any surplus from the factory and a purpose is always agreed upon, ie little production waste is generated from our production.

Cardboard is the main waste from our own operations, which we strive to reuse as far as possible, for example by sending products to our retailers in intact recycled cardboard boxes. We deliver non-reusable cardboard for cardboard collection.
